Shri Ashok Singhal Ji was one of the most dedicated and diligent member of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. In his course of life and service, he has operated many campaigns and led many movements that helped in the protection of Hindus in and across the world. His service to the country and humanity has been exemplary and iconic.
Mother India’s beloved son and a prominent Hindu leader, Shri Ashok Singhal Ji was born on 27 Sept, 1926 to Shri Mahavir Singh and Shrimati Vidhyawati. His father belonged to the village Bijoli of district Aligarh. The family was prosperous and well-settled. Shri Ashok Singhal Ji was born at the maternals. Ashok Ji got his early education from his mother who herself had completed matriculation. Their home was always inundated with saints and religious people as Ashok Ji’s mother was very spiritual and a woman of religious instincts. Coming from a religious background, the family used to observe the “Agnihotra” and “Gayatri Havan” on a daily basis.
Ashok ji’s father was the Deputy Collector and had a blissful family. Shri Singhal belonged to the family of Eight members in which only one sister was there named Usha who got married in 1963. His brother, Shri Bhartendu was younger to Ashok ji and got married in 1950. He was an IPS officer and had been the Director General of Uttar Pradesh. The other brothers, Shri Piyush and Shri Vivek chose the business line. They both got married in 1964 and 1965 respectively. Even though each one of them sailed into different occupations, it was their mother’s religious upbringing and values that made them invincible in every domain.
Shri Ashok Singhal Ji was the 4th child in the Singhal family; the music lover having the spiritual instincts. Being the master of great voice, he gave his melodious voice in many songs for the Association. In 1959, he held the degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Banaras Hindu University (BHU). He used to spend a lot of time in studying the Spiritual Literature in the library. He chose Engineering for the sake of his father’s wish despite having no interest in this field. All he wanted was to serve the nation while observing celibacy. During his childhood, he used to spend most of his time studying, attending the RSS meetings, and his favorite was meditation.
Being a dedicated volunteer of “Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh”, Shri Ashok Singhal Ji had been serving as an apostle in Kanpur Metropolis. He was appointed as the association Manager of two provinces, Delhi and Haryana after serving the Association for years The second head of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Revered Shri Guruji anticipated Ashok Ji’s intentions and moves and inspired him for the upliftment and welfare of the Hindu Society through VHP. Hence, Ashok Ji maintained his role as the United General Secretary of VHP and International President besides the guardian of VHP till his last breath. He used VHP as a byword of the mass movement and expanded the work areas of VHP by uniting the “Bajrang Dal” and “Yuva Vahini” with other projects. He built a mass gesture for the “Ram Mandir Nirmaan” by initiating the “Ram Janambhoomi” movement.
